Precision Inspector (Build Reliability)

This is a Full-time position in Hawthorne, NY posted May 10, 2021.

Our precision inspectors are responsible for being the last line of defense in assuring mission success.

You will perform in-process inspections and verify that all key performance and design characteristics are met or exceeded during launch preparation and recovered booster processing.

You will be working hands on with the most cutting edge rocket technology currently available and will be part of history.

This position will be supporting the quality inspection team at the SpaceX Valve Factory, which is responsible for the most critical components of our Dragon, Falcon, and Starship programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Surface plate work/inspection of machined aerospace parts Create, maintain and verify CMM programs used for the measurements of manufactured and supplied parts Inspect supplied product according to the applicable drawing and or work order specifications to verify that it conforms to all design requirements Perform complex inspections following standardized methods In-process inspection, visual and/or dimensional inspection of precision machined parts Interact proactively with production to improve products and reduce defects Communicate and help resolve quality related issues Document non-conformances in accordance with prescribed procedures and processes Support quality management system policies and procedure documentation, assess compliance to company and industry standards, initiate and lead continual improvement and Lean manufacturing initiatives Work in a cross functional environment utilizing PC-DMIS programming skills as applied to an articulating Romer ARM and CMMs Perform documentation review and verification of certifications, specifications, and conformance to design and specification requirements
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalency certificate 4+ years of quality inspection experience in a machine shop
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Advanced understanding of blueprint reading, shop math and GD&T Understanding of ISO 9001/AS9100 quality management systems DCC (direct computer controlled) CMM with PC-DMIS software experience Romer Arm experience with PCDMIS software Solid computer skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel Ability to review drawings and identify improper callouts/datum structures, according to ASME Y14.5 Thorough understanding of all layout inspection tools (surface plate, height gage, indicators, calipers, micrometers, gage blocks, and thread gages) Ability to adapt in demanding environment in regards to executing workload Possess a positive attitude and be willing to assist anyone at any time
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is a 1st shift role but must be available for 2nd shift (3:00 PM – 12:30 AM), overtime and weekends as needed Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted Must be able to work all shift hours, able to work overtime and weekend as needed To conform to U.S.

citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C.

1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S.
